Suspicious stuffed pony blown up outside school (AP)

AP – Authorities blew up a stuffed pony — determined to be a “suspicious device” — after it was found outside a central Florida school. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office reported that the toy was found near the Waterbridge Elementary School Tuesday morning.

‘Robbery drill’ creates real trauma for Fla. pair (AP)

AP – A 72-year-old Florida woman was accidentally shot by her husband during a “robbery drill” the couple staged to practice how they’d respond to an intruder. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said Arnold and Patricia Morris had little experience with guns, and the shooting Sunday was an clearly accidental.

Police: DWI suspect drives 11 miles without tire (AP)

AP – Authorities said a western New York man whose license expired 33 years ago has been charged with driving while intoxicated after police said he drove a van 11 miles without one of its tires. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said another motorist reported seeing a tire falling off a van weaving on a road in Bethany late Monday night.

Wis. man cited for harassing woman at express lane (AP)

AP – A man who berated a woman who had more than 10 items in the express lane of a Saukville grocery store has been given a disorderly conduct citation. The Port Washington woman said she asked the express lane clerk if she could check out because there was no one in line. While she was checking out, a male customer approached and began harassing her, even calling her fat and ugly.

AP – A science professor at Gustavus Adolphus College left for a week’s vacation this summer and returned to a shiny office. Very shiny. Professor Scott Bur’s students had covered his office in aluminum foil.

AP – An American Kennel Club-registered dog has been turned loose in the wild after the Frankfort Humane Society mistook her for a coyote. Copper is a female Sheba Inu.

Cops: Man holds his mom hostage for not ironing (AP)

AP – Authorities have charged a 29-year-old man with aggravated assault and false imprisonment after they allege he held his mother hostage for failing to iron his clothes. Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Marc Griffith said the man remained in jail Wednesday without bond. The unidentified woman was not harmed in the June 30 incident.
