Alleged police impersonator pulls over detective (AP)

AP – A Long Island man faces impersonation charges after police said a driver he pulled over for a traffic stop turned out to be a legitimate detective. Suffolk County Police said 35-year-old Victor Alfaro-Marquez of Selden was arrested Monday night, hours after the attempted traffic stop.

Boy, 5, wanders into wrong class, prompts lockdown (AP)

AP – A 5-year-old Vancouver, Wash., kindergarten student who wandered into the wrong classroom set off a school lockdown before he was located Monday. Vancouver police said Braiden Gonzalez arrived at Walnut Grove Elementary on the school bus as usual. The problem started when he played outside with some first-graders and then followed them into their classroom.

AP – A northern Colorado man was quickly arrested twice for DUI: Once while driving his own car, the second time for stealing the police car as he waited to be taken in. Adam Segura was being held in Weld County Jail after a brief police chase Thursday.

Md. man sentenced for stealing library’s tarantula (AP)

AP – A Maryland man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for stealing a spider from a public library. Carroll County Circuit Judge J. Barry Hughes sentenced 27-year-old Randy Humple of Westminster Monday.

Nevada candidates to cut cards to break tie (AP)

AP – Two candidates in a rural Nevada county will settle a tie in their primary race Las Vegas style. A Republican Nye County commissioner and his challenger tied with 381 votes apiece in the June 8 primary. They’ll cut cards in the next week or so to determine who moves on to the general election.

Police: Church burglar leaves birth certificate (AP)

AP – Police said a man who stole petty cash from a central Pennsylvania church is in custody after leaving his birth certificate behind when he left. Authorities said 28-year-old Allen Larry Dawes has been extradited to York County to faces charges after being arrested earlier this month in New Jersey.

Cops bust woman, 74, for pouring mayo in book drop (AP)

AP – Police said a 74-year-old woman arrested after pouring mayonnaise in the Ada County library’s book drop box is a person of interest in a yearlong spree of condiment-related crimes of the same sort. The woman was arrested Sunday at the library, moments after police said she pulled through the outside drive-through and dumped an open jar of mayonnaise in the box designated for reading materials.
