Boston Marathon bombings send the entire nation into a shock
On April 15, 2013, two homemade bombs blasted during the famous Boston Marathon shocking the entire nation and the whole world. Later authorities dubbed bombs as “Pressure Cooker” bombs because one of the bombs was packed into a pressure cooker and the other was a pipe bomb. Three people were killed including a child and a Chinese student on the marathon route closer to the finish line on Boylston Street, more than 250 people were injured and some lost their limbs. A day later, two brothers of Russian Dagestan decent were identified as possible suspects. The terror did not end there. A day later brothers hijacked a vehicle, killed a MIT police officer and engaged in a gun battle with police. One brother died at the battle scene and the other got away. A day later, after the Boston city was locked down for a day, the 19 year old second suspect was found hiding in a boat and later apprehended. The FBI, and the Federal, state and local government authorities are investigating incidents and any possible connection to extremist Islamic groups. No one is safe anywhere in the world due to extremist religious views.
Another Suicide Car Bombing on Easter Sunday in Kaduna Kills 38
In a series of suicide bombings that have rocked Nigeria recently, Kaduna, the capital of Kaduna state, is now the latest target. These attacks, which took place on Easter Sunday, are considered by authorities to be the work of Boko Haram, a radical Islamist sect known for previous attacks as well.
In describing the suicide attacks, Pastor Raji said, “We were in the Holy Communion service and I was exhorting my people and all of a sudden, we heard a loud noise that shattered all our windows and doors, destroyed our fans and some of our equipment in the church.”
The All Nations Christian Assembly Church and ECWA Good News Church were possible targets of the suicide bomber as the explosives-laden car made an attempt to enter the premises but was stopped by barriers and a security guard.
Even though the blast site was cordoned off quickly by soldiers and the police, the authorities have not been able to verify which group carried out these attacks, even though the general consensus blames Boko Haram for these attacks. However, what makes these latest attacks dangerous is the rising animosity between Muslims and Christians in Kaduna.
According to the spokesperson of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, Abubakar Zakari Adamu, 38 people were killed in the blast while several others were suffering from serious injuries and were receiving treatment in nearby hospitals.
Even though churches have increasingly become the target for suicide bombings, Boko Haram, the terrorist group suspected to carry out these attacks, have not only attacked Christians but Muslims and the UN Headquarters in Nigeria as well.
Indian Journalist Arrested for Israeli Diplomatic car Bombing in New Delhi
Following the bombing of an Israeli diplomatic car in New Delhi, Syed Mohammed Kazmi, a Delhi-based freelance journalist who works for an Iranian publication, has been arrested by the police. Investigations showed that he was in touch with the suspect who may have been responsible for the bombing which involved placing a magnetic bomb on the Israeli diplomat’s car.
Among the injured were Tal Yehoshua-Koren, an Israeli defense official’s wife, the driver of the vehicle and two other people in a nearby car. Also, on the same day, a similar bomb was found on an Israeli diplomat’s car in Tbilis, the capital of Georgia, and defused. The arrest was made after scouring the journalist’s home for any hint of evidence but no further information was provided.
While Israel has accused Iran, Indian officials remain silent over the issue while investigations are underway to verify Iran’s involvement in the attacks. Since India is dependent on Iran for oil, this puts the country’s officials under pressure to take sides on the matter especially since Tehran has denied the accusations that it is encouraging state terrorism. Israel has also stated that military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities are not an option that they have ruled out in view of increasing attacks on Israelis.
Despite India being criticized for its growing economic ties with Iran, it has agreed to abide by economic sanctions on Iran by the United Nations but will not participate in the recent measures taken by the European Union and the United States to impose stricter financial restrictions on Iran.
